I was awarded the 2023 “Meefisch” First Prize for Picture Book Illustration for the best children’s book in the German language.

With playful humour, Die Öblings kommen! (The Öblings Are Coming!) unfolds the hilarious escapades of a pig family as they frantically prepare for the long-awaited visit of the mysterious Öblings—whom they’ve never met.

The book features a vibrant blend of hand-drawn and collage-style illustrations and will be published by Fischer Sauerländer in late 2025.

Die Öblings kommen zu Besuch! Obwohl kein Schwein die Öblings persönlich kennt, gerät die gesamte Schweinefamilie augenblicklich in hellen Aufruhr, als sich die Ankunft der Gäste ankündigt.

Kurzerhand wird eine zweite Garage errichtet, und das riesige Baumhaus im Garten erfährt eine Rundumerneuerung. Damit sie auch alle reinpassen, wird die Haustür vergrößert und das Dach angeboben. Die Wände im Haus bekommen einen neuen Anstrich in bunten Farben, und neue Möbel werden besorgt. Für den Fall, dass alle auf einmal aufs Klo müssen, bauen sie sogar weitere Toiletten ein! Ohne Ende wird gewerkelt, gewaschen und gekocht, bis die Öblings endlich vor der Tür stehen… Ich arbeitete in einer Mischung aus Handzeichnungen und Collage-Elementen und schrieb auch die Geschichte.

The Öblings are coming to visit! Even though no one actually knows who the Öblings are, the entire pig family is instantly thrown into a state of sheer frenzy as news of the guests’ impending arrival looms.

Without further ado, a second garage is built, and the treehouse in the garden undergoes a massive makeover. To ensure that everyone fits in, the front door is enlarged, and the roof is raised. The interior walls are given a fresh coat, and brand-new furniture is procured. Just in case the Öblings all need to use the bathroom at once, the parents even install additional toilets! Endlessly washing and cooking as if there were no tomorrow, they all but await the Öblings’ arrival… I used a mixture of hand-drawn illustrations and collage elements. In addition, I also wrote the story.

J’ai remporté le premier prix «Meefisch» du meilleur livre pour enfants en langue allemande. Dans Die Öblings kommen! (Les Öblings arrivent!), même si personne ne sait réellement qui sont les Öblings, toute la famille cochon est instantanément plongée dans un état de frénésie totale à l’annonce de l’arrivée imminente des invités.

Sans plus tarder, une deuxième garage est construite et la cabane dans l’arbre du jardin subit une transformation massive. Pour s’assurer que tout le monde rentre, la porte d’entrée est agrandie et le toit est surélevé. Les murs intérieurs reçoivent une nouvelle couche de peinture, et des meubles flambant neufs sont acquis. Au cas où les Öblings auraient tous besoin d’utiliser les toilettes en même temps, les parents installent même des toilettes supplémentaires! Lavant et cuisinant sans arrêt comme s’il n’y avait pas de lendemain, ils attendent avec impatience l’arrivée des Öblings… J’ai utilisé un mélange d’illustrations dessinées à la main et d’éléments de collage. En plus, j’ai également écrit l’histoire.
