For Francis of Assisi, writing was not just a means to an end, but an expression of profound spirituality. His works, among them the famous “Cantico delle creature,” which would become one of the masterpieces of world literature as the “Canticle of the Sun,” arose in moments of intimate communion with God, whom he encountered above all in nature.
This poem, regarded as the oldest surviving text written in the Italian language, is his most significant work. Formally, the canticle is not rhymed poetry, but rather a song or prayer in free verse. The text belongs to the tradition of medieval hymns of praise and is imbued with deep gratitude and a strong sense of connectedness to nature.
On the occasion of the 800th anniversary of Assisi’s death, I have complemented the text with illustrations that visualize the beauty, spirituality, and universal message of the work (Barbara Fiore Editora).

NUEVAS ILUSTRACIONES
